Hyacinths Alert

Just a quick note on hyacinths. Much of the crop this year has suffered from a bacterial infection, which over time, results in the complete breakdown of the bulb tissue, the bulbs turning to mush. Unlike some diseases, early planting will not help. The infection is spread from bulb to bulb and unless treated will contaminate the whole stock.

Our stocks have all been treated and are monitored closely. If you are going to order hyacinths this year do so early as we cannot guarantee that additional clean stock will be available. I suspect that most, if not all outlets are not even aware of this. Be careful. Needless to say there are a lot of very unhappy hyacinths growers this year.
