Crocosmia Bulbs

A South African Native bulb which is generally hardy here as long as the planting site is well drained in winter though conversely water in summer is needed to sustain vigorous growth. The cut flowers will last nine days in water. Crocosmia takes its name from crocos and osme, as it is said that if flowers are dried and soaked in water they resemble the sweet scent of the saffron crocus. Several hybrids are available now which make excellent long lasting garden plants.
